Fireproof, waterproof hard drives are better than leaving the file without any protection on your desktop computer, but there are a lot of deficiencies in using that as your only control. These can be addressed much better with a remote hosting service.

For instance, a manual backup still does not address the issue of anytime, anywhere access which should be crucial issue to every small business owner. Hurricane, tornado, power failures.... How would you access your data?

Theft or employee sabatoge is still a potential issue. In the case where the employee (or former employee...) walks out the door with the computer and the backup drive, you are still in the same position.

This also will not account for the time lost managing the backup process. With our hosted solution, it is always backed up on redundant servers without any additional effort on the part of the small business owner.

Most small business owners' time and efforts are better spent doing what they do best in their businesses. In order to help streamline their processes and make them more efficient (and profitable), business owners need to consider outsourcing functions such as IT. In many cases, the cost of the time lost performing this function is more than the cost to outsource. The business owner should be concerned with tasks that grow the business and create value.

ummm....why aren't you also using a fireproof waterproof hard drive from either ioSafe or Sentry??
www.iosafe.com
www.sentrysafe.com

It's a no brainer and works to protect the entire server against almost everything that can happen to it.
