In What World are High Taxes Patriotic?

I just read an interesting article in the Wall Street Journal regarding a claim that Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden made that said raising taxes on the rich is the “patriotic” thing to do.

Isn’t freedom one of the basic cornerstones of our democracy? How does having well over half of your income confiscated by the state and federal governments resemble this freedom. High taxes inherently limit our freedom to achieve wealth – the cornerstone of the American dream.

Wouldn’t it be more patriotic to stop all of the wasteful government spending and reduce the tax burden on all Americans (or at least 67% of us that pay taxes)? The answer to many of our nations problems is not to spend more money. This is the same as in any business – throwing money at problems does not fix the problem, it only waste the money.

Bigger government is not patriotic (at least in the United States). We are not a socialist country and governement should not be involved in every facet of our lives. More spending means bigger government mean less freedom. It is pretty simple.
